Why Douglas fir for framing?

What the grade stamp tells you
Every piece carries a grade stamp. A #1 & better stamp signals fewer and smaller knots and a cleaner appearance than standard #2 stock, while still meeting structural requirements — a good choice where the lumber shows or where you want straighter, higher-appearance framing. The stamp also lists the mill, species, and moisture designation (S-DRY / KD), so an inspector can verify the material meets the spec on your drawings.
