Type NM-B (nonmetallic-sheathed cable) can be utilized for both exposed and hidden applications in typically dry environments at temperatures not exceeding 90 degrees Celsius (with ampacity restricted to that of 60-degree Celsius conductors) as outlined in the NEC. NM-B cable is mainly employed in residential electrical systems as branch circuits for outlets, switches, and other devices. NM-B cable can be installed in the air spaces of masonry block or tile walls, provided these walls are not exposed to excessive moisture or dampness. The voltage rating for NM-B cable is 600 volts.
