This post cap provides a positive connection for a post to a wood deck and is stronger than angled nailing or screw fastening. It reduces the chance of post splitting and eliminates nailing into the end grain. It is not recommended for non-top-supported installations, such as fences or unbraced carports. The nominal post size is 4x. Made from 18-gauge steel with ZMAX galvanization for extra corrosion resistance, it should be installed with 16d common nails or #10 x 1-1/2 in. Strong-Drive SD screws.
