This post cap provides a positive connection for a post to a wood deck and is stronger than angled nailing or screw fastening. It reduces the chance of post splitting and eliminates nailing into the end grain. It is not recommended for non-top-supported installations, such as fences or unbraced carports. The nominal size is for a double 2x beam and a 4x post. Made from 18-gauge steel and galvanized (G90) for extra corrosion resistance, it should be installed with 10d common nails or #9 x 1-1/2 in. Strong-Drive SD screws.
